RDS Web FAQs:

Q. How do I sign-up for RDS?

A. Click on Sign-Up for RDS for instructions on how to request access.

Q. How do I change my password?

A: Click on Change Password. Enter your user ID and old password. Enter a new password (must be 4 to 8 characters in length).  Repeat the new password in Verify Password and click Change. You should receive a confirmation screen that says “Your password has been changed successfully.”

Q. How do I reset my password?

A: Contact the UMIT Service Desk at (305) 284-6565 to reset your password.

Q. How do I login to RDS?

A: Click on RDS Login. Enter your User ID and Password (cannot be longer than 8 characters) then click OK. The RDS screen will display the message “Please Wait, Loading Reports…”

Q. Why do I get “Error: Connecting to the server (USER): 1002” when I try to login?

A. You do not have access to RDS. Click on Sign-Up for RDS for instructions on how to request access.

Q. Why do I get “Error 401 - IMW0578E Access denied - The user name is unknown or not defined to the kernel” when I try to login?

A. You entered an incorrect user ID and password more than three (3) times. Your password has been locked. Contact the UMIT Service Desk at (305) 284-6565 to reset your password.

Q. Why do I get “Error 401 - IMW0579E Access denied - The oldpass is not authorized” when I try to login?

A. The password that you have entered is incorrect. If you are entering a password that is longer than 8 characters, only use the first 8 characters to login.

Q. How do I create a filter?

A: In RDS, do the following:

  1. Click on Filter on the menu bar.
  2. Enter the RDS Form ID (e.g. FR90).
  3. For the other fields, keep the system defaults.
  4. Click on Filter.
  5. Your filtered list of reports will load in a few seconds.
Q. How do I view the entire report instead of page by page?

A: In RDS, click the report you want to view. In the upper left of screen, for #PAGES enter 9999 and click Submit. The entire report will load in a few seconds.

Q. How do I restore a report?

A: In RDS, do the following:

  1. Click the ‘red arrow’ for the report you want to restore.
  2. You should receive a confirmation screen that says "Your request has been submitted."
  3. Click OK.
  4. Since the restore process runs every hour on the half hour, check RDS within two hours for the restored report.
  5. The restored report will remain active for a period of 10 days.
Q. How do I download a report in a .txt format?

A: In RDS, do the following:

  1. Click the report you want to download.  
  2. In the upper left of screen, for #PAGES enter 9999 and click Submit.  The entire report will load in a few seconds.
  3. From the Edit menu, choose Select All (or CTRL+A).
  4. From the Edit menu, choose Copy (or CTRL+C).
  5. Open Notepad.
  6. From the Edit menu, choose Paste (or CTRL+V).
  7. From the File menu, choose Save (or CTRL+S).
  8. Choose the location to save your file, enter a name and click Save.
Q. How do I download a report in a .xlsx format?

A: In RDS, do the following:

  1. Click the report you want to download.
  2. In the upper left of screen, for #PAGES enter 9999 and click Submit.  The entire report will load in a few seconds.
  3. From the Edit menu, choose Select All (or CTRL+A).
  4. From the Edit menu, choose Copy (or CTRL+C).
  5. Open Notepad.

  9. Open Excel.
  10. From the Office Button, choose Open (or CTRL+O).
  11. From the Files of type list, choose Text Files and locate the saved file.
  12. Click Open.
  13. Follow the instructions on the Text Import Wizard.
  14. For Step 1, choose the file type that best describes your data. Click Next.
  15. For Step 2, set your column breaks.  Add or remove break lines in the data preview window.
  16. Click Finish.
  17. From the Office Button, choose Save As then Excel Worksheet.
  18. Choose the location to save your file, enter a name and click Save.
Q. How do I search by department or account number in the FR90 report?

A: In RDS, click the report you want to search. In the upper left of screen, for #PAGES enter 9999 and click Submit. From the Edit menu, choose Find on this Page… (or CTRL+F). Enter the the department or account number, select ‘Match whole word only’ and click Next.

Q. Which reports do I have access?

A. In RDS, your RDI9 report contains the list of reports that you have been granted access.

Q. How do I request additional access to other reports?

A. Complete the RDS Additional Access form, which is located on the Forms and Guides page. Fax the completed form to (305) 284-2840.

Q. What is local printing?

A. Local printing is a RDS feature that enables users to print from the IBM Mainframe directly to a Network printer. RDS automatically sets the font and paper orientation as needed.

Q. What are the requirements to setup local printing?

A. You need to have access to a network printer with a static IP address with no printer security assigned.  It is recommended that the printer has postscript language. Contact your network specialist for the IP address information.

Q. Where do I get the local printer setup form?

A. The RDS Local Printer Work Sheet is located on the Forms and Guides page.

Q. How do I print a report using local printing?

A. In RDS, open the report you want to print. Click on the printer icon and then Submit. You should get a confirmation window that says “Your request has been submitted.” Click OK.

Q. How do I print selected pages of the FR90 report?

A. You have two options:

  1. Copy and paste the information from RDS into notepad and print from there.
  2. Calculate the range of pages (start and end) to print from RDS.

Calculation example:

  • Search for the dept/acct number you need and record the page number it starts (e.g. 500).
  • Search for the dept/acct number you need and record the page number it ends (e.g. 515).
  • Record the page number of the first page of your report (e.g. 400).
  • 500-400=100 gets your start range.
  • 100+(515-500)=115 gets your end range.
Q. How do I sign-up for RDS Web training?

A. Click on ULearn to login to the training portal. In the upper right of screen, search for ‘RDS Web’.  In the results window, click RDS Web Training. From the available sessions, click Request to register.

A. The RDS Web Guide is located on the Forms and Guides page, under the RDS User Guides section.


EOS Thin Client FAQs:

Q. How do I sign-up for EOS Thin Client?

Q. How do I change my password?

Q. How do I login to EOS Thin Client?

A: Refer to the login link provided in your Welcome to EOS Thin Client confirmation email.

Q. Why do I get “Error messages: 1022-” when I try to login?

A: You did not logout of EOS Thin Client correctly and is still logged in. The system has a 30 minute time out for all sessions. Any attempt to login before the session times out will return the message 1022. Email the RDS Staff to have the session terminated.

Q. Why do I get a series of blue boxes across my screen when I click on a report?

A: You need the latest version of Java installed on your PC. Go to the Java website and click on Free Java Download.

Q. How do I verify that I have the latest version of Java installed on my PC?

A. Go to the Java website and click on ‘Do I have Java?’ link. Click on Verify Java version. This will take a few seconds. If you do not have the current recommended Java installed, click on Download Java Now.

Q. Why do I get a security warning box with message “The application’s digital signature has an error.  Do you want to run the application” when viewing a report?

A: The publisher for the viewer is RSD Roger Software Distribution SA. You must select the check box next to “Always trust content from the publisher” and click Run.

Q. How do I create and save a filter?

A: In EOS Thin Client, do the following:  

  1. Click on Edit filters.
  2. Click New.
  3. Enter the Filter name (e.g. FR90).
  4. Enter the RDS Form ID (e.g. FR90).
  5. For the other fields, keep the system defaults.
  6. Click OK then Close.
  7. In the Filter name drop down list, click on the filter you created. Your filtered list of reports will load in a few seconds.
  8. To save the filter you created, ALWAYS logout of the system using the ‘logout’ link on the menu bar.
Q. How do I restore a report?

A: In EOS Thin Client, do the following:

  1. Click the ‘green arrow’ icon in the Actions column for the report you want to restore.
  2. You should receive a Restore screen that asks “Do you really want to restore this report?”
  3. Click Yes.
  4. You should then receive a Confirmation screen that says “Restore request accepted.”
  5. Click Close.
  6. Since the restore process runs every hour on the half hour, check EOS Thin Client within two hours for the restored report.
  7. The restored report will remain active for a period of 10 days.
Q. How do I email a report?

A: In EOS Thin Client, Click the ‘email report’ icon in the Actions column for the report you want to email.  ou should receive a e-mail report screen. Enter the person’s email address, subject and notes in the body. Click Send.

Q. How do I turn off the security bar that appears when downloading a report?

A: With Internet Explorer, do the following:

  1. Open browser
  2. Choose Tools/Internet Options
  3. Click on Security Tab
  4. Click on Local Intranet icon
  5. Click on Sites button
  6. Click on Advanced button
  7. Enter https://rds.miami.edu and click Add
  8. Click Close
  9. Click OK twice
  10. Close and reopen browser
Q. How do I download a report in a .txt format?

A: In EOS Thin Client, do the following:

  1. Click the ‘Export’ icon in the Actions column for the report you want to download.
  2. For the Range, select All or enter the page numbers and click Export.  (If you turned off the security bar, skip to step 7)
  3. You should receive a security bar notification.  Click on the yellow bar on the top of the browser for options.
  4. Choose Download file.  This may take you back to the Login Screen for EOS Thin Client.
  5. Click EOS login.
  6. Click on E FULL EOS ENVIRONMENT (ALL OPTIONS) then Private.  Repeat steps 1 and 2.
  7. You should get a File Download screen that asks “Do you want to open or save this file?”  Click Save.
  8. Choose the location to save your file, enter a name and click Save.
Q. How do I transform a report in a .xls format?

A: To transform of a report, the data must be in a comma delimited format.  In EOS Thin Client, do the following: 

  1. Click the ‘Export’ icon in the Actions column for the report you want to transform.
  2. Click the Report Transform tab.
  3. From the Output format list box, choose Excel Format.
  4. Click the NEW button.
  5. On the menu bar, click on create new marker.
  6. On the selected report below, highlight the 1st column you want to capture. The field1 name will automatically fill in.
  7. Change the name to reflect the actual column name.
  8. If the column contains numeric data, change the type to numeric. Otherwise, keep the default.
  9. Repeat steps 6 thru 8 for all desired columns to capture.
  10. On the menu bar, click on save template. Enter a name and description for the template.
  11. On the menu bar, click on Back.
  12. Click the ‘Export’ icon in the Actions column for the report you want to transform.
  13. The excel template that you created should be in the box on left.
  14. Select the template.
  15. Click the transform button.
  16. You should get a window that displays “Transform in progress…” Click Save.
  17. Choose the location to save your excel file, enter a name and click Save.
Q. How do I search by department or account number in the FR90 report?

A: In EOS Thin Client, click the report you want to search. You have two search options:

  1. On the right of screen, click the ‘Find’ icon on the menu bar. Enter the department or account number, select ‘Highlight match’ and click OK.
  2. Use the Table of Contents (TOC) drop down list to choose DEPARTMENT NUMBER OR ACCOUNT NUMBER.  Select from the list to navigate to the page(s) on right of the screen.
Q. Which reports do I have access?

Q. What is PC print?

A. PC print is a EOS Thin Client feature that enables users to print their reports directly to a local printer that is connected to their PC.  You will have to set the font and paper orientation as needed.

Q. How do I print a report using PC print?

A. In EOS Thin Client, do the following:

  1. Open the report you want to print.
  2. Click the ‘Print setup’ icon on the tool bar.  The Business Services dialog box should appear.
  3. From the Distribute list box, choose PC print.
  4. Change the Orientation to Landscape, Fonts to Monospaced and Size to 8 or 9.
  5. For the print range, choose All pages or enter the desired pages.
  6. Select ‘Display print dialog’ and click Print.
  7. From the Print dialog box, choose a printer from the list and click OK.
Q. How do I sign-up for EOS Thin Client training?

A. Click on ULearn to login to the training portal. In the upper right of screen, search for ‘EOS’. In the results window, click EOS Thin Client Training.  From the available sessions, click Request to register.
