Stay Secure: Change Your CaneID Password Online

UMIT_News_CaneID.pngThe University of Miami's password reset policy stipulates that all CaneID passwords must be changed every 180 days. By enforcing this policy across the University, we can better safeguard the confidentiality and integrity of University data and resources, and also adhere to industry best practices. To change your password, please visit the CaneID Self-Service portal at: caneid.miami.edu. Under "Manage Your CaneID," you can change your password, and, if you have not done so already, you will be required to add/update your security questions and answers. Setting up your security questions is an important step in securing your identity; it also simplifies the process of resetting or changing your password in the future.

Your new password must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be at least seven characters in length
  • Must contain at least one character from each of the following four categories:
    1. Uppercase alphabet characters (A through Z)
    2. Lowercase alphabet characters (a through z)
    3. Arabic numeric characters (0-9)
    4. Non alphanumeric characters (for example, !,$,#,%)
  • Cannot contain your CaneID username
  • Cannot contain your first name, last name, or any portion thereof
  • Cannot be identical to your previous 10 passwords​
