A University-wide migration from on-premises UMail email accounts to Microsoft’s cloud-based collaboration suite called Office 365 has begun with planned completion in 2016. The Office 365 service can be found at the following link www.miami.edu/it/o365. For information on the migration see below.
When will you find out when your email and calendar account is moving? About 1 week before your account is scheduled to move, you'll get a notice by email. You will also receive a few reminders.
Do you have to learn a new email or calendar system? No. With Office 365, you'll have the same email and calendar system you're using today.
Almost everyone will be able to continue accessing their UMIT email and calendar the same way they do right now. Office 365 works with Outlook 2010 (Windows), Outlook 2011 (Mac), Outlook Web App (OWA), and Apple Mail/iCal, as well as with Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows Phone, and other devices.
Do you have to do anything to your computer or mobile phone to get ready? In most cases, yes. Some people will need to take a few steps before their account is moved, and everyone will need to take some steps after. The steps depend on how you access your email and calendar.
You don't need to do anything until you're notified of the date your account will be moving. But if you'd like to get started in advance, you can.
