Enroll in Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Today!

MFA Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is now required for all University of Miami faculty, staff, and students. If your CaneID password is stolen, your direct deposit can be sent to another bank account, personal data can be viewed or altered, and the contents of your UM email, OneDrive, Box, and Google Drive accounts would be exposed. But you can help safeguard against these threats by enrolling in MFA, which adds a step to the login process and requires you to prove your identity after entering a CaneID and password.

Passwords alone are not completely effective at stopping these attacks. Using a second factor (ex. mobile phone or landline) in addition to your CaneID credentials is far more secure than your username and password alone. Since hackers don't have physical access to these devices while attempting to compromise your account, your information is secure.

How to enroll in MFA:

Please visit the CaneID Self-Service portal ( and select "Enroll in Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)."
