MacOS 12 Monterey Support Ending on November 22, 2024

With last year's release of Mac operating system (MacOS) 14 Sonoma, MacOS 12 Monterey will no longer receive security updates after November 2024. As a result, the University of Miami Information Technology (IT) department will end support for MacOS 12 Monterey on November 22, 2024.

How do I upgrade my MacOS?

The latest supported MacOS versions are Ventura*, Sonoma, and Sequoia. Before upgrading, please review your current hardware to ensure that it meets the requirements of the newer MacOS version.

If your University-device is running MacOS 12 Monterey, please take action via one of the following options as soon as possible so we can continue providing support for your device after November 2024:

  • Option 1 – Upgrade your Mac yourself: The latest available version of MacOS will appear in System Preferences > Software Update, depending on your computer's hardware requirements.

  • Option 2 – Get help with your upgrade: Don't want to upgrade the MacOS on your own? Submit a request for IT support by emailing help@miami.edu and we'll assist you with the upgrade.

What happens if I do not upgrade my MacOS?

If you do not upgrade to a supported MacOS, IT will be unable to support your device. This means:

  • Your Mac computer will not be able to connect to the University's administrative network.
  • Your Mac computer will not receive security patches or functionality updates.
  • Your Mac computer will no longer get automatic configuration updates for University-managed services.
  • Our IT technicians will no longer be able to troubleshoot software and/or operating system issues on your Mac computer.
*FYI: Expect MacOS Ventura support to end in late 2025

With Apple's expected release of a new MacOS version next year, Ventura will be the third oldest version and will cease to be supported in 2025. When this occurs, the IT department will stop providing software support for all computers running MacOS 13 Ventura on November 30, 2025.
